Considered one of the leading voices in contemporary Gothic and horror literature, Mariana Enríquez first came to prominence with the novel Bajar es lo peor (1995). Since then, she has built a substantial body of work combining fiction, chronicle and non-fiction, often focused on the darker sides of Argentine society, social margins and the imaginary of horror. Translated into more than twenty languages, she is the author of the short story collections Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego (2016) and Los peligros de fumar en la cama (2017), as well as the novel Nuestra parte de noche (2019), which received the Premio Herralde de Novela, the Premio de la Crítica and the Premio Celsius. Her most recent publications include Alguien camina sobre tu tumba. Mis viajes a cementerios (2021), Un lugar soleado para gente sombría (2024) and Cómo desaparecer completamente (2025). She has also developed an extensive journalistic career linked to the newspaper Página/12, and among her recent projects is Guía paranormal de la Costa Brava (2026), a documentary by Ferran Romeu that follows the research behind a guide devoted to the paranormal imaginary of the Catalan coast.
